Our Mission and Vision
We at the Gynecologic Cancer Prevention and Survivorship Clinic believe that our patients don’t have to just than survive cancer treatment, they can thrive.
The scars of cancer prevention interventions and treatment are real, and not always visible. Our mission is to improve quality of life for people affected by gynecologic cancer hereditary risk or diagnosis. Through every step, we stand alongside you, leading you to a life of renewed strength, resilience, and endless possibilities.
We provide evidence-based personalized care in the areas of hereditary cancer prevention, surgical decision making and menopause management. We believe all patients should have the opportunity to access research.
Our Journey
Over the years, we heard from patients and physicians alike that people with BRCA mutations or other genetic risks were struggling to find accurate, consistent and research based medical care about genetics, cancer survivorship, prevention, premature menopause care and sexual health.
Many patients reported feeling lost in a system that is focused on specific issues individually but that did not “put it all together” for them as a person. Many reported getting contradictory advice about hormone therapy use. Others who had a gynecologic cancer diagnosis in the past told us that they felt scared when they were discharged from active cancer treatment. They needed more ongoing support about the side effects of their cancer treatment and the enormous impact cancer had had on their life.
As we listened to patients, we could see the need for a dedicated patient-centred clinic that provided high risk or gynecologic cancer patients with evidence-based prevention and survivorship care. With a generous starting donation front the Diamond Foundation and a small research grant from the University of British Columbia, we launched the “Gynecologic Cancer Prevention and Survivorship Clinic” in February 2021.
Today we are proud to serve over 400 people from all corners of British Columbia and Yukon.
