Before I discovered my BRCA 1 mutation, I had little knowledge of what this would mean for me. The weeks after receiving the results were endless evenings of googling everything I could find on BRCA1. I felt directionless, feeling lost in the endless sea of (mis)information. I was referred to Dr. Dawson and her team through BC Cancer. Meeting Dr. Dawson and her team for the first time, I was amazed that this care was available. An immense sense of calm washed over me. The care Dr. Dawson and her team provide is above and beyond what I could have hoped for. Dr. Dawson discussed what a  BRCA1 mutation means, my options, support pre- and post-surgery, and showed an incredible amount of empathy and compassion. The clinic made me feel that I was supported and not alone. I do not know what this journey would have looked like for me without Dr. Dawson and her team; I might still be googling in constant worry. I am and forever will be eternally grateful for the clinic.
