Debbie’s Story
I was referred to Dr. Dawson’s clinic at the time of my preventative bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy at age 39, and I first saw her one week into my recovery. I was already on hormone replacement medications that my family doctor had prescribed, but even so I was experiencing very frequent and uncomfortable hot flashes, mood swings, and trouble sleeping and focusing. I did not feel like myself, and I was afraid of how this would impact my ability to focus on my life as a busy mom and graduate student. Dr. Dawson recommended a new HRT regimen, and warned me that we would need to do some experimenting over time to find the right dosage for me. I had been warned by women who had had this procedure before me to expect up to a year of discomfort and struggle as I worked HRT out with my family doctor, but Dr. Dawson’s clinic was able to get me through the process much more efficiently and painlessly. In only 16 weeks, after several thorough follow-up visits that allowed Dr. Dawson to assess my symptoms and gradually tweak the dosage, we have hit the jackpot – no more hot flashes, and I feel like myself. I am certain that if I had been working with my family doctor, it would have taken much longer to get here. It’s a bit of a paradox: Dr. Dawson gave me so much time and attention, and as a result, she was able to accelerate my adjustment to HRT, thus allowing me to give my full attention to my family and my studies. Dr. Dawson’s work was essential to my speedy recovery, and I hope every woman who has this preventative surgery will get the benefit of her clinic’s support.
I hope that hits on all the points that will help funders see just how essential your clinic is! Thanks again for everything, you really have been spectacular!
